The England national team secured an incredibly dramatic victory over Slovakia in a Round of 16 clash at Euro 2024. The “Three Lions” were on the brink of elimination from the tournament after Ivan Schranz put Francesco Calzona’s side ahead in the first half, but a stunning goal from Jude Bellingham in the 95th minute and Harry Kane shortly after the start of extra time saved the “Three Lions” from a disastrous exit.

The two teams started brightly, with no shortage of tough tackles. Referee Halil Meler didn’t hesitate to show four yellow cards before 20 minutes of the match had even elapsed. Surprisingly, Slovakia’s attacks were more dangerous, and one of them in the 25th minute put Francesco Calzona’s side ahead.

Juraj Kucka won an aerial duel with Marc Guehi and deflected the ball to David Strelec, who played Ivan Schranz in behind the defense. Slovakia’s goalscorer coolly beat Pickford with a skillful shot – 0:1.

Gareth Southgate’s side tried to press after the goal, but all their attacks were repelled by the opponent’s solid defensive wall. In first-half stoppage time, Colby Meyno shot from distance, but his effort was blocked.

England started much better after the break and found the back of the net through Foden in the 50th minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside after a VAR check. Ten minutes from time, Declan Rice hit the post.

Slovakia were already tasting victory when deep in stoppage time, Jude Bellingham showed why he is the most expensive footballer in the world. With an amazing scissor kick, he sent the ball past Dubravka and sent the match into extra time.

As early as the first minute of extra time, Harry Kane brought the crowd to their feet. Substitute Ivan Toney headed the ball down and the England captain didn’t wait for a second invitation, making no mistake from close range – 2:1.

The Three Lions held on to their lead until the end of the match and celebrated their victory. In the next phase, Gareth Southgate’s side will face Switzerland, who knocked out the defending champions Italy with a 2-0 victory.
