Slovenia and Denmark draw 1-1 in a thrilling Group C clash. The two teams shared two strong halves. Denmark dominated the game in the first half, while the Slovenians significantly improved their performance in the second half.

The Danish “Dynamite” in the person of Christian Eriksen scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute, giving the Red Devils a one-goal lead at the break. In the second half, parity was restored in the 76th minute with a goal from Erik Janza.

Although Denmark dominated from the start of the match, Slovenia missed a good chance in the 15th minute when the ball fell to Benjamin Šeško, who controlled it and fired a powerful shot past Kasper Schmeichel’s goal.

Two minutes later, Denmark punished their opponent! Three years after his cardiac arrest, Christian Eriksen marked his return to the European Championship in a special way, as he put his teammates ahead. In the 17th minute, from a cross from the right into the penalty area, Jonas Wind deflected the ball to the team’s star, who elegantly beat Jan Oblak.

The second half saw a surge in Slovenia’s ranks. The symbolic hosts threw themselves into attack and in a scramble in Denmark’s penalty area, Andraž Šporar fell to the ground after a collision with a defender. The Slovenians appealed for a penalty, but referee Sandro Schärer, in communication with the VAR assistants, decided not to award a penalty.

Despite the drop in tempo in the second half, “the Danish Dynamite” were close to doubling their lead, catching the Slovenian defense unprepared. In the 64th minute, a player from Denmark made a sharp cross from the left into the penalty area, where Rasmus Hojlund met the ball, but Jan Oblak made a quality save.

The Slovenians immediately came to their senses and three minutes later organized a beautiful attack in which Gnezda Čerin skillfully positioned himself on the penalty spot to unleash a fierce shot that flew past the right post of Kasper Schmeichel’s goal.

In light of their performance on the pitch in the second half, the Slovenians fully deservedly equalized in the 76th minute. First, striker Benjamin Šeško fired a rocket from the edge of the penalty area, which ricocheted off the right post and went out for a corner. The Slovenians took the corner, the ball reached Erik Janza, whose shot found the back of Kasper Schmeichel’s net for 1:1.
