England’s underwhelming performance continued at Euro 2024 as they drew 0-0 with Slovenia in their final Group C match. The encounter at the RheinEnergie Stadion in Cologne failed to deliver any exciting moments, lacking any significant opportunities in front of either goal.
With the draw between Serbia and Denmark, England secured first place in the group with five points. Denmark finished second with three points, followed by Slovenia in third place with two points. Serbia finished last with two points.
Despite being considered underdogs in today’s match, Slovenia had a decent chance to score in the 5th minute. Forward Benjamin Šeško received a pass from a teammate inside England’s penalty area and headed the ball towards Jordan Pickford, but it went narrowly over the bar.
During the first half, Gareth Southgate’s side managed two shots on target, but neither posed any threat to goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
The second half saw no significant action, with England’s only attempt to break the deadlock coming in the 74th minute. The “Three Lions” ventured forward more boldly, with Declan Rice, arguably the world’s best defensive midfielder, finding space for a shot, but the ball sailed wide of the right post.
Two minutes before the end of extra time, England had a chance to snatch victory through Cole Palmer, who found himself in a shooting position. However, his shot lacked power, making it an easy save for Jan Oblak.
